A return of the Mitsubishi Colt in Europe for 2023
After ceasing to market the Colt in 2013, Mitsubishi put that back in Europe. It will in fact be a Renault Clio disguised as a Mitsubishi, the manufacturer having developed it thanks to its alliance with the Renault-Nissan group. The small city car will arrive for 2023, the manufacturer presented it this week by offering some photos.
The Colt name is also well known in North America. The model was indeed marketed for several years under the Dodge banner and not Mitsubishi. Yes, the Dodge Colt was introduced in North America in 1970, and seven generations followed one another until the withdrawal of the model in 1994, which was also known as the Eagle Summit and Plymouth Colt.
Moreover, this is the only collaboration between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. We remember in particular the Eagle Talon, Dodge Avenger, Dodge Stealth, Plymouth Laser, all Mitsubishi products. This was one of the most important alliances for Mitsubishi at the time.
The 2023 Mitsubishi Colt will therefore be based on the fifth generation of the Renault Clio, it should arrive in showrooms early next year. Mitsubishi has released some photos that hint at the styling of the model; the hybrid emblem clearly hints at the arrival of an electrified engine, which will undoubtedly make it a very fuel-efficient model. In terms of design, it takes the same lines as its French cousin, but it is entitled to an entirely different front end.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the Mitsubishi Colt will cross the Atlantic, especially since we had its equivalent, the Mirage. The Mitsubishi Colt 2023 will be assembled in Slovenia and Turkey on the Renault Clio production lines.
