Electric Midsize SUV Unveiled in November

Swedish automaker Volvo announced last week that it plans to unveil the electric livery of its XC90 midsize SUV on November 9.

This long-awaited foray into an important segment could secure Volvo a lead against competition that is focused on electrifying its compact SUVs. For now, we know very little about this newcomer, which will be named EX90. Its design could be inspired by the rather futuristic style study Recharge presented last year.

Volvo being Volvo, the focus will be on safety. It is specified that the model will be equipped with a state-of-the-art active security shield consisting of a battery, cameras, radar and laser remote sensing (LiDAR). The system also relies on cameras and sensors placed in the passenger compartment to judge the driver’s level of concentration. If the latter falls asleep at the wheel, the system can take control of the vehicle and bring it to a safe stop.

We’ll have a full portrait of the EX90 in a few weeks.
