Mitsubishi XFC Concept: scent of a new RVR

Mitsubishi begins to prepare us for the replacement of its aging RVR which has been on our market since 2011. The XFC would be a particularly promising successor, at least in terms of style.

the Mitsubishi XFC will be officially unveiled as part of the Vietnam Auto Show between October 26 and 30. We therefore lack all of its technical data, but one thing is certain, this concept is not electric, it works with a petroleum derivative.

What interests us at the moment is the formula when it comes to size, configuration and design. With the XFC, Mitsubishi abandons its controversial “dynamic shield” with its two large chrome strips. Instead, a slightly more understated approach is offered that marries styling cues similar to Polestar for the headlamp units and a touch of Lexus with the grille layout. In the lower part, Mitsubishi offers two LED hexagons. This shape is also used for the exhaust pipes at the rear. For a sporty look, there are two air outlets on the bonnet. In profile, the XFC is stocky with a sculpted and textured black lower part to remove the effect of height from the body. The rims mimic carbon fiber. As fashion almost dictates, the roof adopts a floating formula. At the rear, the style is closer to Toyota this time. Good note to the integration of the angular rear bumper which furnishes the bumper well.

Inside, there are few surprises considering current trends. Mitsubishi can’t resist the temptation to put a single screen that includes both the instrumentation and the multimedia system. The absence of a rear-view mirror requires the presence of additional monitors for side views. At the base of the dashboard, a honeycomb touchpad allows control of certain controls. The clearances are considerably larger than those currently observed in the RVR. We discover interesting measures both at the front and at the back. Good note also to the presence of a fixed panoramic roof which offers a beautiful light on board.

Not a single word on the engine or engines, except that they will initially be thermal. Mitsubishi President Takao Kato says an electric version will be in the works shortly. We don’t have confirmation for the Canadian market, but we hope the XFC replaces the RVR. The wait shouldn’t be too long since the production version will be unveiled next spring. It remains to be seen whether she will come to Canada.
