We’re not the only ones who hate news ergonomics volkswagen. As proof, the head of the brand, Thomas Schäfer, recently made an announcement on his LinkedIn account that, after receiving several complaints from consumers, Volkswagen would drop its touch controls installed on the steering wheel. These functionalities had not won unanimous support in the Golf GTI and Golf R as well as the ID.4 electric.

In its publication, Mr. Schäfer mentioned that the entire company is about to streamline its range of models and intends to simplify the way they work. He then confirmed that Volkswagen plans to return with physical buttons on the steering wheel, because that’s what consumers have been asking for.

It has not been confirmed when Volkswagen will initiate these changes, but in all likelihood the first vehicle to inherit the transformation would be the Golf, sold here in GTI and R variants. In Europe, the 2023 model year will bring a good upgrade. update which will also affect the steering wheel. Unfortunately, if we rely on the habits of the manufacturer to prioritize the European market, we will have to wait almost another two years before being entitled to this update.

We also don’t know if Volkswagen intends to overhaul the ergonomics of the Golf, which, remember, suffers due to touch controls that do not respond well, climate control and volume control buttons that do not light up. not at night and a completely disastrous multimedia system in terms of usability, not to mention the large number of bugs that consumers experience. These irritants also affect the electrical ID.4.
