The Bugatti Chiron Profilée has been sold, a new record
Everyone knew that the sale of the Bugatti Chiron Streamlined would be exceptional. It was during its sale under the hammer of the house RM Sotheby’s, yesterday, in Paris. At a record retail price of 9,792,500 euros, or $14,258,451, it’s nearly double the price of the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta new car. The Chiron once again makes history.
The history of this car is fascinating. It was to bridge the gap between the regular Chiron and the Pur Sport. Customers asked for a car that was a bit more intense than the Chiron, but less intense than the Pur Sport. From there was born the concept of the Profiled. However, you should know that the Chiron range is limited to a production of 500 copies only.
Unfortunately, with the popularity of the model, all examples were sold out before Bugatti had time to complete development of the Profiled. Bugatti nevertheless had time to prepare a pre-production copy to do the initial tests on the car, which explains the 396 kilometers on the clock. The project will go no further than the approval of driving on the roads of Europe. It is not legal elsewhere in the world, at least on public roads.
The manufacturer therefore finds itself with a unique car, fully developed with a particular history and, above all, a book of names of collectors all more fond of the brand than its exclusivity. What to do ? A unique, unreserved sale in the city of light, Paris, carried out by the largest auctioneer of prestige cars in the world: RM Sotheby’s.
Bugatti and RM Sotheby’s ran a major advertising campaign to boost the value and prestige of this unique Chiron Profilée. It was clear that we wanted all the major collectors in the world to know that the sale was going to take place. This prestigious event was held yesterday, on February st, in Paris. The hammer fell with a price of 9,792,500 euros including selling costs, which is the equivalent of 14,258,451 Canadian dollars.
The amount is staggering and breaks the sales price record for a new car. The previous record was held by the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta 2016. We remember that this Aperta should not exist. Ferrari produced a 500e car while the production was to be 499 copies of the LaFerrari. The manufacturer had assembled it in order to offer the funds raised to support the victims of the earthquake which occurred in Italy. At the time, RM Sotheby’s sold this Ferrari for the sum of 7 million US dollars, approximately 9.3 million Canadian.
Despite its singular character, the Profiled adopts the W16 quad-turbo 8.0-liter 1,479 horsepower. Its top speed is limited to 380 kilometers per hour. Importantly, according to Bugatti, since it is a pre-production vehicle, it does not enter the total of the 500 Chiron announced. In the middle, the collector who bought it will certainly be very happy to say that he owns the only Chiron Profiled, the unofficial 501e Chiron.
