The 2024 model year will be the last of the current Chevrolet Camaro

The era of the “muscle car” is undergoing significant changes these days. While Ford recently launched the seventh generation of the Mustang and Dodge is preparing to unveil an electric Challenger, Chevrolet is taking another direction. The production end date of the Chevy Camaro sixth generation is now known.

The Landing Grand River plant, located in Michigan, will see the production of the two variations of the Camaro, the coupe and the convertible, extinguish in January 2024. This means that the 2024 model year will be the last of this sixth generation, which has been on the market since 2016.

To mark the end of this generation, and also the end of an era, Chevrolet will add the “Collector’s Edition” package to the options available for the Chevrolet Camaro RS and SS.

According to the manufacturer, this package will pay homage to Camaros by having a nod to the first generation of the Camaro, which arrived for the 1967 model year and was codenamed “Panther”.

Also, a limited number of Camaros equipped with the ZL1 option and terminal package will be offered in North America, to maintain the model’s appeal. While details are yet to be confirmed, images provided with the announcement hint, once cleared, of a large spoiler, multi-spoke wheels and exclusive badging for the Camaro ZL1.

A succession to be determined

Although the manufacturer does not wish to comment on the future of the Camaro on the North American market, it is satisfied to say, by the voice of Scott Bell, vice-president of Chevrolet, that one should not be afraid. “While we’re not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured this isn’t the end of the Camaro story,” he said during the announcement.

This leaves room for speculation. Will Chevrolet take the same path as Dodge in electrifying very well-known names in its history? That seems plausible given the fact that GM has been insisting for a long time that its Ultium electric architecture is suitable for both SUVs and sports cars.

On another note, will Camaro become a family, like Ford’s Mustang? Rumors have already wanted the brand with the bow tie to take this direction, especially with the Corvette, but nothing allows us to conclude such a future for the Camaro.

Until we know more about the future of the Chevrolet Camaro, more details will be released as to what features will be included in the “Collector’s Edition” set later this summer, closer to the order opening date.
