The 2024 Porsche Cayenne S swaps its V6 engine for a V8 engine

Porsche took advantage of the Shanghai Auto Show to unveil the Cayenne 2024. Extremely popular in China, the place was well chosen to lift the veil on this update which, in terms of aesthetics, closely follows the stylistic line of the current model. Nevertheless, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne gains in power, gets more equipment, changes the style inside and sees its price go up.

More efficient powertrains

Each version of the 2024 Cayenne produces more power than the current model. For starters, the standard version of the Porsche SUV will come with a 3-liter turbocharged V6 engine. This engine produces 13 more horsepower and 36 lb-ft of torque to deliver 348 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque.

THE Cayenne E-Hybrid will also be back for 2024. Combined with the V6 engine, this hybrid edition of the Cayenne will be more powerful thanks to the addition of a 174 horsepower electric motor. This version will develop a combined output of 463 horsepower, 13 more. To power the electric motor, Porsche replaced the 17.9 kilowatt-hour battery with a 25.9 kilowatt-hour one.

Although the electric range of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is unknown at this time, this new battery should improve it. Moreover, the vehicle has a new 9.6 kilowatt charger, which allows the battery to be recharged in 2.5 hours in a 240-volt terminal, according to Porsche.

Meanwhile, the Porsche Cayenne S ditches its old twin-turbo V6 in favor of a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The huge engine generates 468 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 34 horsepower and 37 lb-ft compared to the V6. The Cayenne S promises surprising acceleration, according to the manufacturer. Equipped with the Sport Chrono option, the SUV should complete the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

To add a layer of madness to the Cayenne, the version Turbo-GT retains the biturbo V8, but gains 19 horsepower for a total of 650. The manufacturer claims that this edition will perform the 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.

A new suspension, a slightly revised style

From the outset, the various versions of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne will come standard with a steel-coil suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). According to Porsche, low-speed comfort, dynamic cornering handling, sway and body roll management have been significantly improved.

As an option, the manufacturer offers an adaptive air suspension which, according to Porsche, further improves the driving experience and the precision of the vehicle. This suspension is supposed to offer an even clearer differentiation between the different driving modes naming Normal, Sport and Sport Plus.

Although subtle, the exterior of the Porsche Cayenne has been reworked. Based on the current generation of the vehicle, the brand’s engineers have improved the front lights. According to the manufacturer, the new headlights are more efficient, detect the presence of vehicles in the environment to improve lighting and offer up to 32,000 pixels. Otherwise, Porsche has slightly reworked the fenders of the vehicle as well as the rear lights and now offers 3 new colors. New 20, 21 or 22 inch wheels are also added to the 2024 edition.

More technology

The update of the Porsche Cayenne 2024 is felt inside the vehicle. To integrate the brand new Porsche Driver Experience dashboard, the manufacturer has moved several control levers in the vehicle. The gear selector has been moved to the top of the dashboard, and the controls for the driver assistance system are now to the driver’s left.

This allowed Porsche to add 3 new screens in the vehicle. Originally introduced in the Porsche Taycan, the dashboard is now purely virtual. A curved, driver-focused instrument screen measures 12.6 inches, and alongside it, a 12.3-inch screen doubles as infotainment. This one integrates Spotify and Apple Music to increase the connectivity of the SUV.

For the first time in the history of the model, it is possible, as an option, to obtain a screen measuring 10.9 inches for the passenger. This screen allows the co-driver to listen to video content without the driver being able to see the screen, as Porsche claims a layer of brightness prevents the driver from being distracted.

Now, how much does the completely updated 2024 Porsche Cayenne cost? The standard version of the SUV will retail for a starting price of $89,800 and range up to $218,300 for the Turbo GT version. The first copies should arrive in Quebec dealerships during the summer of 2023.
