lucid | A response to Tesla with more affordable models
After catching the automotive world off guard with its large Air sedan, California-based electric vehicle maker Lucid is preparing to expand into more affordable categories.
His big boss, Peter Rawlinson, confirmed this desire during an interview with the English magazine Auto-Express. Without specifying when these new models will be released, Lucid’s CEO said he wanted to produce rivals to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. These compact creations would be priced close to US$50,000.
Rawlinson, who is the former chief engineer of the Tesla Model S, thus wishes to reproduce the strategy of his rival, who had entered the market with more expensive models and then embarked on creations with greater distribution potential.
At the moment, Lucid only produces the Air, a luxury sedan that has a starting price of $87,800. The Gravity, a large SUV with three rows of seats, will be introduced next year. One more player, therefore, in the arena of consumer electric vehicles.
