Seven major automotive groups — the BMW Group, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Stellantis — announced last week that they had joined forces to set up a new North American network of fast charging stations. This major effort to support the industry’s electrical shift aims to deploy at least 30,000 terminals.
These stations will be positioned in urban areas as well as along highways and will offer various related services, specifies the joint press release sent to the media. They will be compatible with vehicles equipped with CCS or NACS ports, which makes it possible to integrate practically the entire electric vehicle fleet.
Participating builders are committed to ensuring that this impressive network is powered by renewable energy, a major challenge for many American states. It will also be very interesting to see how this network will complement that of the electrical circuit already well established in Quebec. The first terminals will be in operation in the United States from the summer of 2024 and a little later in Canada, it is said.
