Electrification spells the death knell for another Jeep model since Stellantis has announced that it will stop marketing the Jeep Gladiator equipped with the EcoDiesel engine this year. Since the manufacturer likes to celebrate the end of its models rather than simply passing it over in silence, it decided to launch a limited edition to mark the occasion. This year, we will therefore be entitled to the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon FarOut, a new version that will mark the end of production of the Gladiator with a diesel engine.
It will be remembered that the model was introduced for the 2021 model year, it was distinguished by an impressive engine torque of 442 lb-ft. Based on the Gladiator Rubicon, the FarOut features the same power figures; it is equipped with the 3-litre EcoDiesel V6 engine paired with the 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic gearbox. It features Dana 44 front and rear axles, a 3.73 axle ratio and the Rock-Trac 2-speed transfer case featuring a 4:1 reduction ratio at low speeds.
The list of standard equipment includes:
- “Diesel 3.0L” graphic on the hood
- Exclusive “3.0 D” badge on the tailgate
- “FarOut” badge on the tailgate
- Black fender decals
- 17-inch low-gloss black polished aluminum wheels
- 33 inch off-road tires
- Steel front bumper
- Body color wheel arches
- Satin black grille
- LED lighting group
- Black leather seats with red accents
- Black leather dashboard with red stitching
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon FarOut Edition will be sold in Canada for a suggested retail price of $79,995 plus $2,095 freight and PDI. Only 1,000 copies will be offered for North America.
Thereafter, the Gladiator will only be offered with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gasoline engine.
Conclusion
The Jeep Gladiator follows in the footsteps of the Wrangler which also lost its Diesel-powered livery some time ago. We can speculate on the possibility of finding soon a 4xe rechargeable hybrid engine as is the case of the Wrangler.
