The Mahindra Vision Thar.e: rival of the future electric Jeep Wrangler?
While Jeep and Mahindra collaborated decades ago, the two companies have found themselves in court in recent years. The reason ? The marketing of Mahindra’s Roxor, a vehicle that strongly resembled a retro Jeep, too much in the eyes of the American brand.
It should be noted that Mahindra also markets vehicles in certain markets, in particular the Thar, a vehicle dedicated to off-roading which is very similar to a Jeep Wrangler. The brand took advantage of an event held in South Africa to unveil the Mahindra Vision Thar.e, an electric all-terrain vehicle that looks nothing like the latest generation of the combustion engine Thar marketed since 2020.
At this time, it is not yet known whether Mahindra intends to put the Thar.e into production as a concept vehicle. The Indian automaker has confirmed that the Vision Thar.e concept is based on a version of the upcoming Inglo modular electric platform; it will use components from the Volkswagen Group’s MEB architecture. According to the manufacturer, this all-wheel-drive platform is capable of producing system powers of up to 250 kilowatts and can be paired with high-voltage batteries with a capacity of 60 to 80 kilowatt hours.
On the outside, the Vision Thar.e concept features LED light strips as headlights and taillights, a glass roof panel, side mirrors that use cameras and a spare tire mounted on the tailgate.
The interior is just as radical and futuristic as the exterior and features a hexagonal steering wheel, a fully digital instrument panel, a rotating infotainment system and a T-shaped gear selector, among others.
It will be recalled that the Indian giant unveiled five electric SUV concepts based on the Inglo platform last year, split into two new sub-brands called XUV.e and BE.
