Mercedes-Benz EQB 2024, new style, a range of 394 km
A week ago, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the starting price of its electric SUV. The EQB 250, offered exclusively in traction, will be the entry-level model. It will have a price of $59,990 and will be available in Canadian dealerships in the fall of 2023. Mercedes-Benz has announced that the model will be entitled to a cosmetic update in 2024. Indeed, the German manufacturer is adding more standard equipment in the SUV and refreshes the look.
More choice and a new version
At first glance, the dark grille, which now incorporates the manufacturer’s star pattern, stands out. Delivered in black as standard, it is chrome with the new Electric Art and AMG Lin versions. According to Mercedes-Benz, this front end allows the EQB to visually catch up with its siblings, in this case the EQE and EQS. In addition to the grille, a light strip now connects the daytime running lights, while a modern bumper makes the front of the vehicle more massive. The designers also redesigned the interior of the taillights.
Four new 18-, 19- and 20-inch light-alloy wheels will now be offered. It will be possible to choose from two new paint finishes: twilight blue and high-tech silver.
New interior and more technologies
Interior innovations include the addition of the 10.25-inch center touchscreen as standard. This monitor will also be entitled to the latest generation MBUX operating device. It has three types of displays (classic/sporty/discreet), three modes (navigation/assistance/service) and controls the 10 worlds of surrounding light colors transforming the SUV cabin. The owner can also customize the instrumentation and infotainment screen to their liking.
Audiophiles in search of acoustic competence will be delighted to learn that the EQB will now be sold with a better quality audio system. Indeed, the electric SUV will offer, as an option, the Burmester surround sound system. According to Mercedes Benz, this channel provides an immersive listening experience and gives music more space. The sharpness and depth of sound will be striking; the occupants will be able to enjoy an auditory experience close to the studio recording of their favorite piece of music.
The new version of the MBUX device will also allow the EQB to obtain another parking tool that is more intuitive and faster to use than before. The PackParking, offered as an option, adds a 360-degree camera to assist the driver during more complex parking maneuvers.
Identical engine, 4-wheel drive version to be confirmed
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the 2024 EQB 250, the front-drive version, will go on sale early next year. However, the manufacturer has not revealed which other variant will accompany the 250. Currently, it is possible to choose between the EQB 250 and 350. The latter is the most powerful of the range, and it is offered as an integral version.
The company offers the EQB 300 in various markets. As this model is positioned between the 250 and the 350, it is more efficient than the entry-level version, but less than the most equipped model. Mercedes-Benz Canada has confirmed that only one of the 2 4WD versions will be marketed on our market in 2024, but has not revealed which one.
However, regardless of the manufacturer’s decision, the engines will remain the same. The 250’s electric motor develops 188 horsepower and will still be powered by a 70.5 kilowatt-hour battery that will give the vehicle a range of 394 kilometers. The EQB 350’s motor would also be powered by the same battery and develops 288 horsepower; however, the range will be 365 kilometers.
Mercedes-Benz Canada says the 2024 EQB 250 will hit dealerships across the country in the winter of 2024. We’ll have to wait a while to find out which version will get the 4WD cog, but it’s a safe bet that the EQB 350 2024 will be the lucky one.
