It’s official, the MINI Clubman is not coming back

There MINI Clubman, this charming little family car with an appearance just as cheerful as the manufacturer’s other models, was withdrawn from the Canadian market at the beginning of 2023 due to declining sales. Although it will still be offered to our southern neighbors until the end of this generation, in 2024, MINI has just confirmed that it is removing it from its range.

Everything about the Countryman and the Aceman?

Mme Stefanie Wurst, CEO of MINI, confirmed the news in an interview with the British media Top Gear. Although she loves the Clubman, being the owner of this model herself, she explained that the Countryman fills the manufacturer’s utility vehicle space much better.

She also took the time to remind her interlocutor that the Cooper is now available in a 5-door model, which gives it almost the same degree of versatility. The manufacturer also plans to soon add the Aceman to its range, a small electric SUV a little more compact than a Countryman. There is therefore no more room for the Clubman at MINI.

“We are not saying that the Countryman and Aceman replace the Clubman, but, in terms of sales, it is obvious that the Countryman is more popular. This is the model that we will prioritize in the future,” we could read in his interview.

Adorable barn doors

Introduced to the MINI range for the 2008 model year, the Clubman, with its adorable inverted rear doors, reminiscent of those of a small barn, was intended to pay homage to the British Leyland MINI Clubman marketed between 1969 and 1980. model lasted for two generations and was even offered in higher performance S and John Cooper Works versions.

Despite its charm and versatility, the MINI wagon has seriously lost its momentum in recent years. Declining sales forced MINI Canada to remove it from its lineup in early 2023. And although the model continues to be offered in the United States, just 100 examples of a final edition (called the Clubman Final Edition ) will be sold in this territory starting in October. After this date, it’s over for the Clubman.
