Mazda’s turn to adopt the NACS charging port

In 2023, many automobile manufacturers have joined the movement to transition to the charging port NACS (North American Charging Standard). For those who are not familiar with this charging port, it is the one that Tesla brand vehicles are equipped with. Several manufacturers will equip their electric vehicles with this type of charging port, in the majority of cases from 2025. Today, it is Mazda’s turn to announce the adoption of the NACS port for its future electric vehicles, following an agreement concluded between Mazda And You’re here.

New products to plan?

What’s interesting about this deal between Mazda and Tesla is between the lines. Indeed, according to the press release, Mazda mentions that it will adopt the North American charging standard (NACS) for the charging ports of its electric vehicles which will be launched in North America from 2025. This therefore suggests that new electric vehicles could be added to the Mazda range in the near future.

Currently, the Japanese manufacturer only has the MX-30 which is offered in Canada; however, it was eliminated from Mazda’s portfolio in the United States. Alongside the MX-30, the only other product with a charging system is the CX-90 plug-in hybrid. Mazda does not mention the models which will inherit the new NACS charging port from 2025. It will therefore be necessary to monitor the manufacturer’s upcoming announcements concerning the Japanese brand’s future electric products.

More alternatives

This news increases the number of charging options for the Japanese brand’s future electric vehicles. In fact, owners of Mazda electric vehicles will have access to more than 15,000 superchargers on the Tesla network. Mazda, however, did not provide additional details on the integration of additional features into the Mazda app, as other manufacturers have announced. Same thing for the adapters, no details have been provided regarding the availability of the latter.
