The Lamborghini Urus plugs in
Reviled by purists in its early days, the Lamborghini Urus has become an essential model for the financial health of the bull brand. Of the 10,112 units sold in 2023 by the Italian manufacturer, no fewer than 6,087 were Urus. To ensure its adaptability to more emissions-restrictive markets, Lamborghini will soon offer it with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, thus boosting its power.
Applying a plug-in recipe used by several luxury manufacturers, the Urus SE spends a little less on gasoline by inserting a 190 hp electric motor into its eight-speed automatic transmission. This allows the use of all-wheel drive in electric mode. The range is then around sixty kilometers thanks to a 25 kWh battery.
When the SUV enters the hybrid phase, the system can lead the full load with a total output of 789 hp, courtesy of the joint effort with a 612 hp 4.0L twin-turbo V8. 0-100 km/h is then completed in 3.4 s, a very slight improvement compared to the S livery (3.5 s) undoubtedly attributable to the weight gain, which was not specified.
Under its chiseled design, air springs covering adaptive shock absorbers allow the ground clearance to be varied by 6 cm on request. Directional rear wheels sharpen the road behavior of the Italian SUV. The first deliveries of the Urus SE are scheduled for the end of 2024.
