Just a few days after Aston Martin, it is Ferrari's turn to announce its intention to keep its V12 alive. With the new 12Cilindri, the Maranello manufacturer is keeping intact a tradition that dates back to the very first car to display the prancing horse.
The 12Cilindri is, however, a thousand miles from the illustrious 125 S which was neither more nor less than a racing car. The coupe is instead part of the tradition of two-seater grand touring vehicles, of which the F12 Berlinetta and 812 Superfast are the most recent creations of the legendary line of V12 coupes. Without naming it directly, Ferrari nevertheless seems to have taken great inspiration from the Daytona in the treatment of its front part with its low monolithic snout. The 12Cilindri was also unveiled in Miami, Florida.
The piece de resistance nevertheless remains this 6.5 L V12 placed in the central front position. Belonging to an endangered species in the face of rampant electrification, this mechanism draws its origins from the heart of the Ferrari Enzo launched 22 years ago. Capable of a dizzying 9,500 rpm, this twelve-cylinder engine is largely based on the engine of the outgoing 812 Competizione. It thus produces 819 hp and 500 lb-ft, without supercharging.
0-100 km/h occurs in just 2.9 seconds and 0-200 km/h is only a matter of 7.9 seconds, thanks among other things to a dual-clutch transmission (eight gears) shorter staging. Not bad for a rear-wheel drive car!
Featuring a wheelbase slightly shorter than that of the 812 in addition to having directional rear wheels, this 12Cilindri receives suspension turrets reworked in their composition to increase torsional resistance. A fairly striking object, it goes without saying.
