Ford reinvigorates its Maverick | La Presse

The most affordable pickup truck currently available will become even more competitive for the 2025 model year. Ford has finally deigned to offer an all-wheel-drive version of its hybrid-powered Maverick in addition to a new Lobo livery focused on driving pleasure.

The buyer will still be able to opt for a standard front-wheel drive version for the hybrid version, supplemented by an optional all-wheel drive configuration. Both variants use the same mechanics, namely a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder coupled with a CVT transmission and a 94 kW electric motor, for a total of 191 hp. The all-wheel drive Maverick also receives the addition of a multi-link rear suspension.

Another notable feature is a new optional package that allows the Maverick Hybrid AWD to increase its towing capacity to 4,000 lbs., making the truck even more versatile. Ford also hasn't specified fuel economy estimates for this version, but expect a slight increase over the 6.3 L/100 km average for the front-wheel-drive hybrid.

The American manufacturer is also reviving the trend of sports trucks from the 1990s with a new Lobo version of the Maverick.

Lowered by 1.3 cm at the front and by almost 3 cm at the rear, the Maverick Lobo receives a new all-wheel drive system with two clutches at the rear for better torque distribution. The steering has been revised and the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (238 hp) is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, one gear less than the standard variant. Its front end is also completely redesigned, as are the side skirts and the rear bumper and wheels.

Finally, note that the Maverick receives a new front grille for 2025 as well as the SYNC 4 infotainment system with a larger touchscreen (13.2 inches). The first 2025 Mavericks will arrive in Canada early next year, with a starting price of $34,000.
