Lexus presents the latest vintage of its large LX SUV

After many years of relative stagnation, the Lexus LX full-size SUV gets a complete overhaul, while keeping its identity as a downy adventurer intact. Lexus has unveiled the main lines of the new generation of a model still nested.

Beyond the renewed design which relies again and again on this hourglass grille which seems to grow from generation to generation, this new LX 600 must be loaded onto a lift to see even more tangible changes. Still built on a ladder frame, the SUV receives an all-new platform named GA-F, which is derived from the Toyota Land Cruiser offered in other markets as well as the recently revamped Tundra pickup truck. Its weight decreases by 200 kg in the transition and the rigidity is increased by 20%.

Just like in the Tundra, the V8 is dropped to make way for a 3.5L V6 powered by air compressed by two turbochargers. Power sits at 409 hp, slightly more than the 389 hp of the Tundra, which uses the same engine. A 10-speed automatic transmission is also part of the group. If this setup sounds familiar to you, it’s no accident. The competitor Lincoln Navigator also employs a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 and 10-speed transmission. No hybrid on the menu for the Lexus LX, at least for now.

The geometry of the suspensions has been revised and the stroke of the shock absorbers has been increased to promote comfort off the beaten track. Ground clearance can be increased by means of a hydraulic system, unlike the competition, which largely uses air shocks. An all-wheel drive allowing the selection of its reduction for more nervousness in off-road driving remains, as an automatic adjustment of the descent speed, to preserve its identity.

Moreover, the technological aspect is provided by a duo of 12.3 “and 7” screens providing access to the latest generation of the Lexus infotainment system. A real-time update system is integrated to enhance its consultation.

The Lexus LX 600 will go on sale in early 2022.
