Honda | Insight discontinued, hybrid CR-V on the way
Honda Canada has made the decision to no longer offer its Insight compact hybrid after the 2021 model year. The announcement, which comes a few months after the end of marketing of another hybrid in the family, the Clarity, not surprisingly.
The Japanese manufacturer confirmed to us, in a short statement, that the hybrid version of the CR-V, currently reserved for the American market, will soon be offered on the Canadian market to take over. This compact SUV, which will rub shoulders with the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, should be significantly more popular than the Insight, which was sold only 496 units in 2020 according to figures compiled by Goodcarbadcar.net.
Honda also wants to focus its efforts on the Prologue, an electric SUV co-developed with General Motors which will be released in 2024.
The first hybrid vehicle to be sold in Canada in 1999, beating the Toyota Prius by a few months, the Insight has had a checkered existence despite its relative historical importance. The last and third generation launched in 2018 has only passed and probably suffered only from its too much promiscuity of design with the Civic and its fuel consumption identical to the more spacious Accord Hybrid.
The brand announced in April that it wanted to skip the combustion engine by 2040 for its North American range. In the meantime, it will gradually electrify its models by means of electric and hybrid engines.
