Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 2022, velocity and opulence
Developed on the Super Sport 300+ and unveiled by Bugatti, the Super Sport is less radical but more luxurious. On the other hand, at 3.9 million US dollars, it is not much more affordable.
Collectors of Bugatti do not know where to turn as the manufacturer launches variations on the theme of the Chiron. The last one in contention is an evolution of the Chiron Super Sport 300+. Deemed radical by many, the Super Sport goes back to its roots by lightening the extreme elements and reintroducing all the luxury and comfort recognized by Bugatti.
Taking the opportunity, we redesign the body once again. Everything is subtle, but the main element in connection with the 300+ remains its elongated rear end which promotes better air flow and limits tail turbulence. After all, it was with this configuration that Bugatti reached 490.48 km / hour in 2019 with Andy Wallace at the wheel.
Several other aspects hold our attention. The front part, as a whole, has been revised and incorporates management of air movements through openings which allow the entry and evacuation of air waves. According to Bugatti, not only does this new Super Sport follow a tradition that dates back to the 1930s, but it also represents the perfect balance between extreme velocity and the utmost luxury. For this reason, we find the typical round openings in the hood that make a direct reference to the EB110 SS (from 1993 to 1995) and to the Veyron Super Sport (2010 and 2011).
History to ensure a clear demarcation with the Super Sport 300+, the Super Sport adopts its own Y-design for its 5-spoke rims. On the other hand, we find the two series of stacked exhaust pipes of the 300+.
Inside, the Super Sport’s approach is completely different from the Super Sport 300+. In the latter, the obsession with lightening limits accessories and luxury to its simplest expression. With the Super Sport, this compromise does not exist. Typical Bugatti buyers will find all the luxury accessories needed for transcontinental travel.
Technically, the Super Sport remains fully faithful to the 300+. The 8-liter, quad-turbo W16 pushes 1,578 horsepower and produces 1,180 pound-feet of torque. Everything goes through the 4 wheels and allows you to run from 0 to 200 km / hour in just 5.8 seconds. It’s not sufficient ? What can we say from 0 to 300 km / hour in 12.1 seconds!
Unfortunately, even if the car is technically capable of approaching 500 km / hour, Bugatti, regulations and safety limit the maximum speed of the Super Sport to 440 km / hour.
As always, even before leaving the Molsheim facilities, this Bugatti is already a collector’s item. Only 60 units will be built. The base price? Obviously, we are in the millions and it starts at 3.9 million US dollars.
