BMW lifts the veil on the 2022 2 Series Coupe

Even if it is slowly evolving towards an electric world with the I4 and IX, and if its recent designs are certainly not unanimous, BMW does not seem to have lost the desire to satisfy the purists. As proof, not only does the manufacturer make sure that the coupe Series 2 2022 has its engine installed longitudinally – question of routing power to the rear axle first – but it begins its marketing with the most powerful version, namely the M240i xDrive.

Wider than its predecessor by some 66 millimeters and longer by 88 millimeters, this new 2 Series offers a much more exploded design. The front part is similar to that of the sedan Series 2, but it is its rear part which has absolutely nothing to do with the other models of the manufacturer. Obviously, BMW is taking a funny stylistic tangent these days.

Still powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbocharged engine, the M240i is also more powerful than before. It now offers 382 horsepower compared to 335. The torque remains unchanged at 369 lb-ft, however. Paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and xDrive all-wheel drive, the 6-cylinder allows the M240i to sprint from 0 to 100 km / hour in just 4.1 seconds. No manual transmission seems to appear in the plans, but BMW assures that an M2 equipped with it will appear shortly.

The 2022 BMW M240i xDrive is expected to hit our market in November with a starting price of $ 56,950. BMW certifies that the 230i and 230i xDrive will follow later. If we were to trust the US press release, we might expect the same turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque for this variant.

BMW hasn’t said anything about the convertible. Its return would be unlikely, to leave more room for the Z4.
