Recall of 48,237 Hyundai and Kia vehicles in Canada

It is quite rare that a person is put in the trunk of his car, but if this inadvertently occurs, some products Hyundai and Kia do not comply and do not allow a safe exit. Transport Canada is requesting a recall to correct the situation.

Transport Canada requests the recall of certain products Hyundai and Kia related to a problem with the trunk release mechanism if you got stuck inside. Usually, no one takes a trip in a trunk, but if a child is hiding there to play, it can become a real problem.

Here is the list of vehicles Hyundai, 15,963 in all, referred to in recall number R0195:

– Hyundai Accent 2018 and 2019

– Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2016

– Hyundai Sonata 2017 and 2018

On the side of Kia, with the recall number RC150, there are 32,274 vehicles:

– Kia Rio 2018 and 2019

– Kia Forte from 2016 to 2018

– Kia Forte Koup from 2016 to 208

The verbatim of these two reminders concerning the problem, the security risks and the corrective measures is identical.

The recall as stated by Transport Canada:

Problem : On certain vehicles, a part of the trunk release mechanism may not work. If this happens, the emergency release mechanism in the trunk may not work properly. This can prevent a person trapped in the trunk from opening the trunk.

Security risks : If a person is trapped in the trunk, they may not be able to get out. This can create a risk of injury.

Corrective actions : Hyundai / Kia must notify owners by mail and ask them to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the trunk release mechanism replaced.

The people affected by these recalls will be notified within a few weeks by the builders and will be invited to go to the dealership to make the necessary changes.
