Some changes for the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI

With the arrival of new models to the lineup, such as the Taos, ID.4 and the next generation Golf GTI and R, Volkswagen found it important to make some changes to the Jetta so that it harmonizes better with other models. The 2022 model will hit dealerships nationwide this fall.

The most significant change is the replacement of the old 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder for that of the Volkswagen Taos, which goes to a displacement of 1.5 liters (EA211). Also turbocharged, it puts out 158 horsepower and produces 184 pound-feet of torque, which is a slight increase of 11 horsepower over the old engine. The couple remains the same, however.

This unit can always be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic. As for the Jetta GLI, it retains its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder (EA888). Horsepower and torque don’t budge at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet, respectively.

A few cosmetic and interior changes

In terms of design, the front and rear of the Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI received a few tweaks, such as redesigned bumpers and a slightly retouched grille sporting the new manufacturer’s crest. There are also new rims and body colors, like Kings Red, Oryx White and Rising Blue.

Inside, there are some changes in terms of design, multimedia system and digital instrumentation. This is now standard on all versions, as is the heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Jetta Comfortline and Highline receive the MIB3 multimedia interface which integrates wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity as well as wireless induction charging for the phone.
