Volvo XC40 Recharge shoes made from recycled auto parts
It is not uncommon to see manufacturers launching into the production of derivative products, whether it is to boost the sale of a vehicle or to promote the brand. Volvo, which has long relied on safety to stand out, is now exploiting eco-responsibility. To celebrate World Car Free Day on September 11, Volvo launched shoes inspired by XC40 Recharge and made entirely from recycled auto parts.
If electric vehicles and the environment are important to you, you may be able to walk with your toes in shoes made entirely of piecesrecycled automobiles. Volvo Canada has partnered with the shoe company Casca to design sneakers inspired by the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo’s electric SUV.
According to the manufacturer, the goal was to create a shoe inspired by the Scandinavian influences of the XC40 Recharge. The sole of each shoe is made from 10% recycled tire material, while the uppers, including knitted yarns, contain the equivalent of seven recycled plastic bottles.
Volvo’s idea is not only to demonstrate that it is possible to reuse the various components of modern vehicles in the production of objects that furnish our daily lives, but also in the assembly of new models.
Volvo wants to increase the amount of recycled and organic materials in its cars and SUVs by 25% by 2025 and thus reduce the GHG emissions of its factories as much as possible by adopting carbon-neutral energy sources.
Two years ago, Volvo announced that it would only produce electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2025. For the moment, only the Volvo XC40 is offered in an electric version, but the Volvo C40 Recharge will join the range for 2022. The model is expected to share several characteristics with the XC40 Recharge, it is just hoped that the level of production and availability will be higher.
