Ford Mustang Mach-e soon in Police Interceptor
In North America, the organization responsible for approving police vehicles is the Michigan State Police. Ready for a green shift, it is currently testing an “Interceptor” version of the Mustang Mach-E.
As we demonstrated last year in a report at RPM +, the rules for police cars are very strict. In North America, various police forces must follow Michigan State Police recommendations for vehicle selection. Usually the list of choices is not very long and, most importantly, with the exception of the Explorer hybride, not necessarily oriented towards the most ecological models.

Going green
Like the rest of the automotive world, police departments too will sooner or later have to go green. Rumors had been circulating for some time, but it now seems to be confirmed; Ford is likely to offer an “Interceptor” version of the Mustang Mach-E. In police jargon, ” Interceptor Means a conversion into a police car or, at least, prepared to become one.
Demonstrate that it works
The Michigan State Police are currently conducting a host of tests to validate the Mach-E’s skills and ensure it has the dynamic qualities for the job. According to Ford, through the “Police Pilot Vehicle” program, the Mustang Mach-E will “demonstrate that an electric vehicle can deliver strong performance and meet the demands of a police car’s life. “
The GT
The test version is the most powerful in the Mach-E range with the GT model. The latter comes with all-wheel drive thanks to the presence of two electric motors. Horsepower is not lacking as it develops 480 horsepower and produces a torque of 634 pound-feet. In this configuration, the Mach-E provides an advertised range of 402 kilometers under the best conditions. In an emergency situation or in pursuit, these kilometers risk melting like snow in the sun.
A dedicated police car
The idea of an electric police vehicle is not new. The Mach-E “Interceptor” project is just the first of other products to come. Ford, well aware of dominating the police vehicle market in North America, is currently working on an electric car designed and built specifically for law enforcement. However, the manufacturer does not announce a specific date for the release of this model, nor its technical characteristics.
