The Lexus version of the Toyota bZ4X

Lexus will also be entitled to its version of the electric SUV bZ4X from Toyota. It will be called the RZ and will be the brand’s first electric vehicle in North America.

We don’t know all the details, after all Lexus only unveiled a single partially obscured image to confirm the ad and vehicle name. This new utility will bear the name RZ.

Stylistic distinction

From the first glance, you immediately notice the silhouette of the Toyota bZ4X and the Subaru Solterra. This is particularly striking in terms of the roof line and the configuration of the hood. In the image, it is apparent that the rear wing and the quarter panel are redesigned, we can see the affiliation with the Lexus RX, among others.

The rear lights are also more prominent by projecting over the fender. Otherwise, depending on the image, the roof is or could be painted black to contrast with the rest of the body. Obviously, the RZ will pick up design cues from the LF-Z Electrified Concept, which was introduced earlier this year. As is always the case, the production RZ version will be significantly less expressive than the Concept.

Same as bZ4x and Solterra?

Technically, no word from Lexus. We suspect, however, that the mechanical sharing will be complete and identical to its two twins. We are talking here about the e-TNGA platform. Unless Lexus is entitled to some unexpected privilege, the RZ should get the same 71.4 kWh battery.

As regards the cog, we know that it is possible to obtain the bZ4X with a traction type cog only. Considering the RZ’s more prestigious character, the integral should be part of the series equation. The front motor gives a power of 150 kW while the rear motor is restricted to 80 kW. On balance, converting to horsepower, the total is only 215 horsepower.

When and how much?

It is not yet clear when Lexus will fully unveil the RZ. On the other hand, just like the bZ4X and Solterra, it should arrive in the middle of next year as a 2023 model. In terms of prices, Lexus will most certainly have an additional premium depending on the luxury and interior finish that should be superior to the other two.
