Production of the Chevrolet Silverado EV to begin in early 2023

A small revolution is brewing. As Rivian begin shipping R1T electric trucks to US consumers and the Ford F-150 Lightning is on the way to production, Automotive News reports that GM’s president of product development, Doug Parks, has provided insight into the production schedule of the Chevrolet Silverado EV. According to him, production of the truck would start in early 2023.

If the production of Chevrolet Silverado EV begins in early 2023, we can expect the first copies to reach consumers in the spring of 2023, nearly a year after the GMC Hummer EV began to hit North American roads.

Unsurprisingly, the Chevrolet Silverado EV will have been overtaken by the Ford F-150 Lightning, its main competitor, whose production is expected to begin next spring. According to the latest information, the Silverado EV would also be produced some time after the Tesla Cybertruck, whose production initially scheduled for the end of 2021 has been postponed somewhere in 2022.

However, the Chevrolet Silverado EV would probably land before the electric Ram 1500, which would only arrive for the 2024 model year. Other players, such as Atlis with the XT or even Lordstown with the Endurance could come and muddle the waters as well. .

Ultium platform

The Chevrolet Silverado EV will share its structural components not with GM’s regular trucks, but with the GMC Hummer EV. This electric monster, based on the Ultium platform, is offered in several variations and the Chevrolet Silverado EV would retain the least efficient of the versions, which would have a respectable power of over 600 horsepower.

The expected range would be around 400 miles, which equates to around 640 km, a figure higher than what the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T promise, at least with its current battery. The Chevrolet Silverado EV, just like its sibling GMC Sierra EV which is expected to arrive roughly simultaneously, will be assembled not at the same factory as the regular versions of the trucks but rather at the same factory as the GMC Hummer EV, named Factory ZERO, in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. Chevrolet has already confirmed that the Silverado EV will be available with four-wheel steering.

In all likelihood, the Chevrolet Silverado EV will be unveiled at CES in Las Vegas next January.
