Honda temporarily suspends the sale of its sporty compact, the Civic Type R, due to a driver’s seat that may have been improperly secured. A service bulletin would have been sent to dealerships to repair the affected units. However, no recall has yet been issued.
In Service Bulletin 23-030 issued by Honda, we learn that the driver’s seat may not be properly secured to the vehicle structure. What we understand from this defect is that if the Civic Type R were involved in a collision, this improperly installed seat could lead to serious injuries. The problem would come from a defective weld under the seat cushion.
As of this writing, no recalls have yet been issued for this issue, either on the NHTSA
(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) than Transport Canada. In fact, a request for investigation would have been submitted to the organizations by the manufacturer.
Until the recall is issued, the service bulletin advises dealerships to check their serial number database for affected units to determine the extent of the problem and prepare for repair. under the manufacturer’s instructions.
Here is the official press release from Honda Canada:
“A recall notification for the Honda Civic Type R driver’s seat has been submitted to Transport Canada. We are waiting for the final details in order to communicate all the information to the owners. When a recall has been issued, affected owners will be notified, while all unsold units will be repaired before being put back on the market. »
Sales of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will resume as soon as Transport Canada’s recall is released.
