2023 Honda CR-V: substantially more expensive than the 2022 model

The sixth generation of the second most popular SUV in the country will be marketed this fall, and we now know the prices of all versions of the 2023 Honda CR-V. A leak of information is behind the unveiling of these prices, while Honda Canada will confirm everything in a few days.

More expensive than ever

The leak thus informs us of the price of the four versions that will be sold in Canada for 2023, starting with the entry-level LX version. This will command a selling price of $36,855 for the front-drive version, but you will have to pay $2,750 more to get all-wheel drive. That’s a $3,320 increase over the base CR-V’s sale price for the 2023 model year.

Otherwise, the Sport version, which offers all-wheel drive as standard, retails for $43,555, thus crossing the psychological threshold of $40,000. This version offers black exterior elements, 18-inch wheels, a leather-covered gear selector knob and a heated steering wheel also covered in leather.

Then, the EX-L version, also equipped with all-wheel drive, incorporates a good degree of equipment such as leather seats, a 9-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto or a wireless charger; and retails for $45,455. Only the Touring version, which offers a hybrid engine, is more expensive: you will have to pay $50,955 to get your hands on this model. Moreover, it is unfortunate that Honda offers hybridization only on the most expensive version of the 2023 CR-V: this is an attitude contrary to competitors like Kia or Hyundai, which respectively offer more affordable hybrid versions. of their Sportage and Tucson.

A 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is otherwise housed under the hood of all versions, besides the hybrid, and this one develops 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque; it is also the same as found in the previous generation CR-V. As for the Touring version, a 2.0-liter hybrid engine that develops 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque is responsible for moving the vehicle.

Hybridization at the center of the discussion

The more than $3,000 increase in the base price of the Honda CR-V for 2023 may be forgotten in the face of the arrival of the highly anticipated hybrid version. The fuel consumption of each version is also part of the information that leaked on the web ahead of Honda’s official announcement, and that of the hybrid promises, at least on paper.

All AWD models (LX AWD, Sport and EX-L) offer the same fuel consumption of 8.4 litres/100 kilometers on average, 9.1 in the city and 7.6 on the highway. For the front-drive LX version, we’re talking about 7.8 litres/100 kilometres, 8.4 in the city and 7.1 on the highway. To our surprise, these fuel consumption figures do not represent an improvement over 2022, whereas the all-wheel drive version of the 2022 CR-V offers a combined fuel consumption of 8.1 L/100 km, and the version front-drive offered a fuel consumption of 7.7 L/100 km.

Then, the hybrid version, made up of a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle hybrid engine, is naturally much less greedy. It offers an average fuel consumption of 6.4 litres/100 kilometres, 6.0 in the city, and 6.9 on the highway.

As an indication, according to the current average price of fuel in Quebec, a person traveling 20,000 kilometers per year would save approximately $625 by opting for the hybrid version compared to the other all-wheel-drive versions of the 2023 Honda CR-V.
