2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Goodbye V8 Engine, But Still Available for the L Version
As is the case with all car manufacturers, Jeep will sooner or later have to face the new realities of the industry: a radical shift towards zero-emission engines and ever more stringent standards for internal combustion engines, from 2026. Collecting all this, the manufacturer realizes that the presence of a V8 engine within the range of the jeep grand cherokee simply no longer relevant. This engine will therefore be removed from the catalog from 2023 in the regular version.
In other words, only the Jeep Grand Cherokee L will continue to offer this motor option, but it is not known until when. However, it would not be surprising to see the manufacturer also announce its withdrawal by the next year.
In reality, we see that it is possible for a Jeep Grand Cherokee to offer just as much power – even more – while consuming less gasoline without necessarily depending on its 8 cylinders.
Note that the 4xe plug-in hybrid engine develops a total combined power of 375 horsepower and produces 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s 18 horsepower and 90 lb-ft more than the 5.7-litre HEMI V8, not to mention the fact that this engine allows the Grand Cherokee to drive in electric mode for an advertised distance of 42 kilometres.
Then there is the fact that, in terms of polluting emissions, the 4xe engine only spits out 110 grams of CO2 per kilometer against 331 grams for the V8.
The Hurricane is not confirmed, but it is coming
Jeep has yet to announce anything about the implementation of the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine (Hurricane) for the Grand Cherokee, but a reliable source, such as the media Motor Authority testifies that it will, indeed, be added to the lineup over the next year.
This decision could make up for one of the weaknesses of the 4xe engine, that is to say its towing capacity of 2,721 kilos (6,000 pounds). Equipped with the Hurricane engine, the Jeep Grand Cherokee could regain the same towing capacity of 3,265 kilos (7,200 pounds) as the V8. We’ll get back to you with more details as they become available.
