2023 Ram 2500 Rebel: A Power Wagon with a Cummins

After Ram 1500 in 2016, it is now the turn of one of the biggest guys marketed by Ram to benefit from a version rebel. The 2023 model year marks the arrival of this version in the range of available versions of the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty. Diesel and off-road capabilities are there, but you will have to pay a nice amount to get a copy.

Optional diesel engine

The standard engine found under the hood of this behemoth is a 6.4-liter V8 that develops 410 horsepower and produces 429 lb-ft of torque. Although it is effective, the mechanics of the Cummins type is the one that attracts more curious people.

Consumers have been asking for this device under the hood of the Power Wagon for a long time, and Ram will try to please them by adding it in the Rebel version.

This six-cylinder, 6.7-litre machine develops 370 horsepower and produces 850 lb-ft of torque. This torque will also be available at engine speeds as low as 1,700 rpm. A 6-speed automatic gearbox will handle the power to all 4 wheels. The gasoline version has an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The starting price for the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel is $77,545 before taxes, and although this information has not yet been confirmed by the manufacturer, opting for the Diesel engine should add nearly $10,000 to the bill. For the 2022 model year, you have to pay $9,450 to get the Diesel engine for the different versions of the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty. Sales of the model will also begin during the fourth quarter of the current year, and deliveries of the first copies are scheduled at the same time.

Truly intended for off-road riding

Besides the integration of the Cummins engine, the other element that deserves to be raised is the real effort made by Ram to make this pickup capable off the beaten track.

A suspension exclusively intended for off-road driving has been added, a locking limited-slip differential has been fixed on the rear axle, 33-inch all-terrain tires and skid plates are also included. Air suspension for the rear axle is optional, and a maximum towing capacity of 7,652 kilograms (16,870 pounds) can be achieved with the diesel-powered version.

A WARN Zeon-12 winch is also integrated, and a load capacity of 5,443 kilos (12,000 pounds) is offered on versions of the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel equipped with the 6.4 liter V8 petrol engine. The winch is factory installed and features a fairlead and a unique fairlead retainer that uses synthetic rope.

Competition is increasingly present in this segment, as Chevrolet will soon unveil a ZR2 version of the Silverado 2500HD, and Ford is already marketing a Tremor version of its F-250. Although the auto industry is inevitably moving towards electrification, fans of this kind of pickup truck will be spoiled for choice in the meantime.
