2024 Chevrolet Equinox in China Could Hint at Future North American Model

The Equinox name appears in the portfolio of vehicles offered at GM for several years. Moreover, the current generation has been on the market since 2018 already. While, more recently, the manufacturer presented us with the electric version of its compact SUV, the major update of the thermal model, which should display a different design from its counterpart, is long overdue.

However, recent images released by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) may give us a glimpse of what the Chevy Equinox next generation that will be marketed here.

First in the Chinese market

The Chevrolet Equinox is a compact SUV offered in various markets around the world. Moreover, a recent visit to the Chinese website of the American manufacturer allowed me to see that the latter displays the same design there.

Speaking of China, it often happens that the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publishes photos of new vehicles following their approval before their official presentation. Incidentally, the first images of the next-generation Equinox have been released by this ministry. First, we note a relatively different look that aligns with the most recent products unveiled by Chevrolet. As for the taillights, they are reminiscent of those of the new generation Trax.

In addition, some technical characteristics have been revealed on the MIIT site. According to these data, this new Equinox would retain a total length similar to that of the current generation, but would benefit from an increased width of 59 millimeters and a height revised upwards by a few millimeters depending on the model selected.

As for engines, we cannot rely on this information, since engines often change from one continent to another.

Not before model year 2025 in Canada

While the model could be made official in China in the coming months, we should not expect to see the new model arrive here before the 2025 model year. However, the fact that GM is increasingly opting for models worldwide leads us to believe that the Equinox sold here will be very similar to the Chinese model. In addition, several photos of the camouflaged model seen on the roads of the United States confirm the fact that a next generation is in development.

For the moment, no details have leaked on the engine side, but we can expect to see the return of a turbocharged 4-cylinder under the hood. In terms of aesthetics, the thermal and electric versions should not have the same global design.
