Introduced in 2022, the Ford Maverick brought a breath of fresh air to the market. Initially launched at a price below $30,000 powered by a hybrid engine, the vehicle was immediately a huge success. Demand was so strong that the manufacturer subtly increased the price, which thus exceeded the $30,000 mark. However, this maneuver was not enough to slow down demand, which prompted Ford to no longer offer the entry-level hybrid engine on the Maverick, starting in 2024. The news was also confirmed by Ford Canada.
The 2-liter EcoBoost will take over
Following this official announcement, the 2-litre 4-cylinder engine will take over as the entry-level engine. However, in order to maintain a relatively reasonable price range, the 2-litre engine can now be ordered with the front-wheel drive. On the side of the United States, this combination was already possible; however, in Canada it was only paired with all-wheel drive, until now.
The 2.5-liter hybrid engine will remain in the Maverick lineup, but as an optional engine. The latter will only remain available on front-drive models. We asked Ford Canada what the price of this option is, but we did not get an answer on this point.
Restoring the balance of supply and demand
This decision was taken by Ford in order to alleviate the demand for the hybrid model, since the manufacturer is unable to take the upper hand on the strong demand for the hybrid engine. According to information obtained by RPM, the constraints affecting the supply of batteries continue to be a challenge for the American manufacturer. Also according to Ford, this new strategy would aim to better manage customer orders and to be able to offer all vehicles equipped with this engine. Among these models, there is the Maverick, the Escape and the Kuga (this is the Ford Escape, but which has a different name elsewhere in the world).
With respect to the Canadian price range of the Ford Maverick 2024, it has not yet been announced. However, we can expect to see the price of this small Ford pickup go up again next year.
