2024 Genesis G70 gets 2.5L 4-cylinder in South Korea
There Genesis G70 failed to carve out a place for itself in terms of annual sales in the Canadian market compared to its competitors. Despite everything, this car manages to seduce several buyers in its home market, in South Korea. It is also the Korean versions that receive a range of modifications for 2024, including the replacement of the entry-level 4-cylinder by a more powerful engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters.
The most powerful in the category
For the 2024 model year, the Genesis G70 harmonizes with the rest of the manufacturer’s lineup by adopting the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that is already under the hood of the G80, GV70 and GV80. With an announced power of 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, it thus comes to damn the pawn to the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine currently offered, which spits out 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This power increase also distances the Genesis G70 from its competitors, all of which have lower entry-level horsepower.
Although this mechanic has not yet been confirmed for the North American market, it is more than possible that we will also receive it. This 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is already sold in our market, and the manufacturer Genesis has proven more than once that modifications made in South Korea generally translate into similar modifications in North America. If so, the eight-speed automatic would be standard, like in South Korea.
Other improvements
In addition to this supercharged mechanism, the Genesis G70 receives other significant additions. The Brembo brakes used in particular on the V6 version are standard at the front for this more powerful 2.5-litre version, giving it more stopping power. The adaptive suspension is also standard and new wheels are also available. A more defined winged logo is also added, as well as two new colors, Kawah blue and Bartna grey.
On board, the interface for controlling the air conditioning is harmonized with the rest of the range; goodbye to the classic rotary controls, they are replaced by a haptic feedback screen complemented by two wheels located on either side. USB-C sockets are added, as are ventilated seats, and new colors are offered for the cabin.
Status quo for the rest
While one might think that this 2.5-liter 4-cylinder also comes with the 3.5-liter V6 for the higher-performance versions, an engine used in the brand’s other models, this is not the case. South Korea’s 2024 Genesis G70 continues to use the 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 offered since 2018. transmitted to all four wheels. The family version, sold in South Korea, is still offered as well.
The 2024 Genesis G70 with 2.5 liter engine is sold in South Korea with a price starting at 43.15 million Won, which is the equivalent of $44,300 Canadian. Details of the North American version of the Genesis G70 are expected to be revealed shortly.
