50 km electric range for the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV
It was written in the sky that Kia was going to land with the version plug-in hybrid (PHEV) of Sportage 2023 which would display the same technical characteristics as its mechanical cousin, the Hyundai Tucson plug-in hybrid. Here it is, and it is exactly the case.
Kia has not yet released the horsepower and torque data of the Sportage PHEV, but it confirms that it is indeed the same engine as that of the Tucson PHEV composed of the 1.6-liter 4-cylinder and a 66.9 kilowatt electric motor (equivalent to 86 horsepower) powered by a battery with a capacity of 13.8 kilowatt hours. An engine that develops a total combined power of 261 horsepower in the Tucson.
For electric autonomy, unsurprisingly, it is identical to that of its cousin. Kia therefore claims that the Sportage PHEV can travel up to 52 kilometres; however, these data must be confirmed by Natural Resources Canada. In addition, Kia promises a combined average fuel consumption of 6.7 litres/100 kilometers when the Sportage PHEV operates in hybrid mode.
If all goes as planned for Kia, the 2023 Sportage PHEV should hit dealerships nationwide late this summer. No pricing has yet been confirmed, but it’s clear that this model will qualify for the $4,000 provincial rebate and the $2,500 federal rebate for plug-in hybrid vehicles with a battery capacity of less than 15 kilowatt hours. RPM will test this model a few weeks before its introduction in the market to let you know its impressions.
