The BMW x3 and X4 continue to dominate their competitors on the sales charts. In order to stay on this good momentum, BMW is bringing them several substantial updates in terms of mechanics and styling, in addition to offering even more technologies. The X3 and X5 M They also receive their share of novelties. Here are all the details.
In terms of design, the BMW x3 and the X4 receive new front parts including an even more imposing grille, redesigned headlights and a more angular bumper that will better harmonize these SUVs with the new stylistic identity of the manufacturer.
At the rear, the X3 and X4 receive redesigned lights and even larger tailpipes to give vehicles a more assertive presence on the road. At least, that’s what BMW explains in its press release.
A few interior features have also been revised, including the materials used and possible color schemes. Like the BMW M3 and M4, more vibrant colors will be offered for the seats and door trim. A new screen for the 10.25-inch iDrive multimedia system is now standard.
The most important changes have taken place under the hood, especially on the side of the M40i versions. The turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder receives a 48-volt mild hybridization system, which allows the powertrain to develop a total output of 382 horsepower and produce 369 pound-feet of torque. This engine is still paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as well as the xDrive all-wheel drive.
Everything remains intact under the hood of the X3 and X4 xDrive30i. So they’re still powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, also mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. All X3 and X4 sold in Canada come standard with 4WD. However, nothing has been said about a future xDrive30e plug-in hybrid version for our market.
BMW X3 and X4 M
In addition to the same stylistic changes as their regular versions, the M versions receive even more vibrant colors, new 20-inch front and 21-inch rear rims, as well as new color schemes for the interior. .
Under the hood, these monsters are still powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 that powers the M3 and M4 sports cars. This engine offers 473 horsepower in its regular version and 503 horsepower in the Competition variant. Torque has been increased, however, from 442 to 457 lb-ft in the regular version, and to 479 lb-ft in the Competition trim.
BMW therefore promises even more dazzling acceleration for these compact high performance SUVs. The 0-96 km / hour sprint for an X3 / X4 M would now be completed in 3.9 seconds instead of 4.1, and 4.0 to 3.7 seconds for the Competition version. XDrive all-wheel drive is standard, as is an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Like their predecessors, all-wheel drive can disengage the front end to make it a rear-wheel-only vehicle. And like the manufacturer’s recent M vehicles, it will be possible to fully customize the vehicle’s dynamics using the M1 and M2 buttons installed on the steering wheel.
The entire 2022 BMW X3 and X4 lineup will arrive in dealerships across the country towards the end of the summer. Prices will be announced a few weeks before their arrival.
