A long-range electric CLA in preparation
A few months after announcing an update to its Mercedes-Benz CLA subcompact sedan, the British magazine Coach learned that the German brand is working on an electric version of the model that would be able to surpass Tesla’s Model 3 in terms of autonomy.
This new livery, which should see the light of day in 2025, will be built on a new platform called MMA capable of hosting both thermal and electric engines for economies of scale. This new generation of the CLA will first be launched in an electric version, according to Coach. It will be equipped with an electrical architecture of 800 V to ensure good recharge times.
According to the information obtained, Mercedes-Benz plans to use lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. We also want to introduce batteries with silicon anodes for the extended autonomy liveries.
With a 100 kWh battery similar to that used by the Vision EQXX prototype, this CLA will be able to have a range exceeding 800 km. Single or dual engine configurations should be offered. If the roominess is increased and the price is not too high, this CLA could well attract buyers disinterested in SUVs.
