A Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE PERFORMANCE in tennis colors
The man many consider to be the father of modern tennis, Roger Federer, announced in mid-September that he was hanging up his racquet and sneakers. The Swiss player will thus begin a new facet of his life which begins with a new partnership with Mercedes-Benz. The project resulting from this partnership, called “Heritage Neon”, is entering its first phase with the arrival of a special edition of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE. PERFORMANCE.
“Neon Legacy”?
The AMG GT 63 SE PERFORMANCE in question is one of a kind. It won this title because its body sports a yellow paint that is strongly reminiscent of the color of tennis balls. What’s more, its interior and hood are autographed by Roger Federer himself, and Mercedes-Benz promises that no other car will display the same colors as this one in the future.
We know that this car will be auctioned towards the end of the year, and that the funds raised will be used to finance a humanitarian tennis project next year. However, there ends the information disclosed by Mercedes-Benz on the “Neon Heritage” project, or even on the car which is painted in neon yellow. The manufacturer informs us that we will have to wait a few weeks before knowing more.
It’s time for electrification
The car on which the one that will sport the colors of a tennis ball is based was launched more than a year ago by Mercedes-Benz, and the terminology E PERFORMANCE lives up to its name. It adopts a plug-in hybrid engine that develops a total power of 831 horsepower and produces a torque of 1,084 lb-ft. The 4.0-liter V8 engine develops 630 horsepower, while the electric motor is responsible for providing the additional 201 horsepower, the latter being placed on the rear axle.
It’s a rather unique piece of technology that’s found new in other much less expensive models in the lineup, like the all-new 671-hp C63 SE PERFORMANCE plug-in hybrid. For the first time, the Mercedes-Benz C63 abandons the V8 and instead offers a 4-cylinder engine to which it has paired an electric motor also placed in the rear. This engine also wins the title of the most powerful production 4-cylinder on the planet; it alone produces 469 horsepower.
