A new hybrid powertrain for the Tundra?

The Toyota Tundra 2022 is long overdue, but the manufacturer promises a van that will be completely overhauled and powered by brand new engines. We hope so for Toyota, because the trio of competitors offered by Ford, General Motors and Ram have never been so sophisticated. Could the next Tundra be powered by a hybrid powertrain? This is what the most recent information about him suggests.

A few weeks ago, we presented you the details of the next Toyota Land Cruiser. Although this model is not marketed with us, its engine allowed us to get a taste of what the next one will offer. Toyota tundra. It’s an all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that delivers 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

Now, will the next Tundra inherit the integrity of this mechanic? Nothing is clear yet, but a recent image that the manufacturer has shared on its platforms displays the badge. iForce Max, the name of this new engine, highlighted in blue. Toyota usually uses this color to highlight its hybrid powertrains.

The Tundra could therefore retain the same 3.5-liter V6 as the Land Cruiser, but without the presence of the turbochargers. Electric motors could replace them. Or, Toyota could decide to offer two variants of the engine: a variant equipped with turbochargers, and the other, equipped with a hybrid system. Several hypotheses are on the table, but reliable sources, including the American media Car & Driver, claim that this is precisely how the next Tundra will be configured.

Other novelties, such as independent rear suspension and an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission – already offered on the Land Cruiser side – are also in the plans. We will share all the information as it comes to us.
