A price hike reaching $5,300 for the 2024 Hyundai Kona

To deny that the Hyundai Kona represents Hyundai’s bread and butter would be a serious fault. In Quebec, this subcompact SUV has managed to reap good success over time, just like in Canada, where more than 100,000 units have been sold since 2018. This means that the arrival of a new generation is particularly important for the manufacturer, but also for consumers, who will nevertheless have to absorb a price increase reaching $5,300 for the N Line version, compared to the previous model.

A price increase, however, comes as no surprise to anyone who has been following the auto market closely for a few years. Almost all vehicles are now more expensive than before. Pricing is as follows, including freight and PDI ($1925), dealer fees ($599), air conditioning tax ($100) and tire tax ($21). Other than freight and PDI, charges have not been confirmed by the builder, but will likely apply to the Hyundai Kona 2024as they are for the Hyundai Kona 2023 and for other 2024 models currently displayed on the manufacturer’s website.

Version cog Price 2024 Price 2023 Difference Variation
Essential Traction $28,646 $25,296 $3350 13.2%
Integral $30,646 $27,296 $3350 12.3%
Preferred Traction $31,146 27,646 $3500 12.7%
Integral $33,146 $29,346 $3800 13.0%
Preferred Trend Integral $35,146 n/a n/a n/a
N Line Integral $38,146 $33,096 $5050 15.3%
N Line Ultimate Integral $41,146 $36,946 $4200 11.4%

We can therefore see a price increase of more than $5,000 for the N Line 2024 version, compared to that of the previous year, all costs considered. This is the highest rise in the entire range. For entry-level trims, the price difference is $3,350, which puts the Hyundai Kona in the same waters as entry-level trims of other models in the class, like the Kia Seltos, Chevrolet Trailblazer or Mazda CX-30.

An improved vehicle, presumably

However, it should be noted that this higher price comes with more generous equipment. All 2024 Hyundai Konas are now equipped with, for example, a 12.3-inch central screen with a next-generation interface, unlike the 8-inch screen at the entry level in 2023. For the version Preferred, adaptive cruise control is now standard. In the case of the N Line Ultimate version, air-conditioned seats are now offered, as is an eight-speaker Bose audio system and certain parking assistance technologies.

In addition, several improvements have been made, such as an extended wheelbase which translates into greater interior space, as well as more refined materials. The mechanics remain essentially the same, however, with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower for all versions, with the exception of the N Line versions, which use the turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder, whose power has been revised down to 190 horsepower.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona will arrive in dealerships in the coming weeks. As for the electric version, it will arrive later at a price that will be revealed later.
