Another price drop for the Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford plays Yo-yo with the prizes of Mustang Mach-E 2023. The electric crossover, which saw a price drop at the start of the year and a slight increase thereafter, has just seen its price adjusted again. Indeed, the manufacturer confirms that, in most cases, the vehicle versions will see their prices decrease. In addition to this reduction, overall standard-range Mustang Mach-Es will now be offered with an LFP-type battery as well as the new version of the Blue Cruise 1.2 semi-autonomous driving system.

No reduction for the Select version

Although almost all versions have seen their price decrease, the entry-level Select version does not get a reduction. This version, whose price is $59,190, including freight and preparation costs, is also the version eligible for rebates from the provincial and federal governments.

The Premium version with all-wheel drive and increased range even sees its price drop by $11,000. Here is a table of adjustments, transportation and preparation costs included.

Model current priceI Revised price Adjustment
Premium RWD at standard autonomy $67,190 $64,190 $3,000

An LFP battery and increased production

It was while announcing this price reduction that Ford revealed that the standard range Mach-E Mustangs will now be offered equipped with a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery.

Composed of iron at the cathode, replacing cobalt, nickel and manganese, LFP batteries are more durable than regular lithium-ion batteries. They can receive 2,000 recharge cycles, which is 500 more than the ordinary lithium-ion battery. In addition, LFP batteries can be recharged to 100% of their capacity, a notable difference with ordinary lithium-ion batteries which degrade prematurely if they are recharged to the maximum, thus preventing manufacturers from exploiting the battery at its full potential.

This change now allows the standard range and rear-drive versions to travel 402 kilometers, 5 more than before. The standard all-wheel-drive versions will gain 4 kilometers while gaining 45 horsepower. Recharging this battery will also be faster. Using a Level 3 DC fast charger, standard range Mach-E Mustangs will recover 70% of their range in 33 minutes, 5 minutes less than currently using an LFP type battery .

Ford’s semi-autonomous driving system has also been updated. Bearing the name BlueCruise, the driving system, offered only by subscription, offers certain features such as adaptive cruise control and lane management on the highway. The new version 1.2 of the system now allows autonomous lane changes.

In addition to the price, battery and technology changes, Ford has stated its intention to actually increase production of the vehicle. The manufacturer’s plant located in Cuautitlán, Mexico, has undergone major renovations which, according to Ford, will allow a reduction in the delivery time of vehicles. However, we will have to wait until the second half of 2023 to find out whether waiting drivers will actually benefit from these improvements.
