Audi adds YouTube to its catalog of applications, and the Volkswagen Group will do so shortly

As buyers increasingly focus on applications integrated into vehicle infotainment systems, Audi confirmed that it will soon allow owners of some of its models to install the youtube app, the world’s largest video streaming platform. Owners should be able to install it in their MMI infotainment system following an OS update.

Audi mentions that one of the advantages of the YouTube application is its easy access, which allows the driver and occupants to be entertained during stops at the charging station for electric models, when the driver is taking a break or when he waits for the children at school. Premium account users will also be able to log in and watch ad-free content through the built-in app.

Also available in Canada and for all Volkswagen Group brands

The YouTube app will be offered for the first time in Audi’s app catalog in the coming weeks. We also learn that the other brands of the Volkswagen group will follow. Audi has confirmed that the app will be offered in Europe, Canada and the United States.

For now, the app will be offered on select Audi models (A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, A8, Q8 E-Tron and Audi E-Tron GT) from model year 2024 and equipped with the latest 3 infotainment systeme generation (MIB 3).

Although all vehicle occupants can watch YouTube videos on the center display, video playback will only be permitted when the vehicle is parked. Like some other applications that allow streaming, YouTube requires an internet link normally provided by subscription by the manufacturer or your mobile service provider.

In addition to YouTube, the new Audi app store offers the ability to install other apps, including music, video, games, navigation, parking and charging, productivity, weather and news . Even if Audi intends to evolve its catalog of applications, the manufacturer maintains that it will continue to ensure compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay through its interface offered as an option.

Conclusion

Technology is increasingly taking center stage with buyers. Manufacturers must adapt, especially as some brands, including Tesla, push connectivity to higher levels.
