Cadillac, GM’s luxury brand, has just revealed a glimpse of what its vision for the future of electric performance could be. Through a short video, we discover the Cadillac Opulent Velocitya concept car designed to celebrate the past, present, and future of Cadillac, as well as its performance line, the V Series.
Opulent Velocity illustrates, according to the manufacturer, the duality of the Cadillac brand, combining opulence and speed, as its name suggests. This concept car aims to showcase Cadillac’s signature opulence, while offering a vision of the future of high-performance driving.
An intriguing sound
The manufacturer was stingy with technical details; in fact, the vehicle is not shown in its entirety. A full presentation is planned at a later date, but for now we’re treated to a short video offering some clues about the vehicle.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect is the sound accompanying the video. We can clearly hear the typical sound of electric motors accelerating, but it is the high timbre of the revolutions that intrigues, as if Cadillac had decided to integrate a system recreating the sound of a gasoline vehicle in full acceleration.
The release of this video marks the 20th anniversary of the initial launch of the V Series at Sebring International Raceway in March 2004. On this occasion, the manufacturer presented the world premiere of the 2004 Cadillac CTS-V, marking an important turning point for the brand, which thus affirmed its ambition to compete with other luxury and performance lines such as BMW M and AMG from Mercedes-Benz.
Notable V models include the CTS-V, ATS-V, CT6-V, STS-V, CT4-V and CT5-V, not to mention the Blackwing liveries.
We should learn more about this project in the coming weeks. Cadillac has repeatedly stated that the brand will become entirely electric while not neglecting the performance aspect.
