Canoo wants to seduce the American army with the LTV
After announcing a series of partnerships for the design of delivery vans, Canoo is now looking to woo the US military with a version LTV (Light Tactical Vehicle).
Canoo has not yet officially started delivering its commercial vans, but it wants to go even further by trying to appeal to the US military. Canoo announces today that it has sent a first prototype LTV (Light Tactical Vehicle) to the Department of Analysis and Demonstrations of the army. Following the bidding contract obtained last July, Canoo quickly responded to the organization’s requests. While the Canoo LTV is in its possession, the army will do a host of tests to determine if it has the qualities necessary to integrate the imposing fleet of military vehicles of the American army.
Although it is a vehicle with a military vocation, one immediately recognizes the LTV as being a derivative of the other models. The entire cockpit remains the same. We remember that it is designed to offer the best possible ergonomics while having unparalleled outward visibility. In this case, Canoo maintains that it is reinforced with aramid fiber without mentioning the strategic places of its use. It is simply argued that it provides better protection for the occupants and the battery. The company, however, maintains that there is no added weight.
One of the advantages of the Canoo platform is the versatility of the configuration possibilities. We already know vans, commercial vans and pickup trucks. In the case of the LTV, it is, for the moment, an evolution of the van. However, Canoo assures that this configuration can be transformed into a van platform, and that it is possible to cover the rear part for the transport of objects sheltered from the weather or from prying eyes. The prototype even comes with stringers and access ramps to the bed. Canoo wants to demonstrate that their LTV can be configured very easily according to the mission.
To improve those skills in difficult terrain, this Canoo comes with raised air suspensions which increase the height of the ground clearance. In addition, for maximum traction with the help of all-wheel drive, whose combined power peaks at 600 horsepower, we opt for 32-inch tires.
For Tony Aquila, President and CEO of Canoo, the LTV marks a defining moment for the company: “The LTV is another milestone that demonstrates the power of our technology and how it can be used in tactical situations. It’s a winning algorithm for our customers and our business. »
