Chrysler presents the Halcyon concept, a glimpse of the future of the brand
Last week, we presented you with a first image of a new electric car concept in a news article dedicated to this purpose. Today, Chrysler is lifting the veil on this concept, and we are taking advantage of this news to tell you about it in more detail. He posts the name Chrysler Halcyon concept and his mission is to present the future of the brand.
A glimpse of the future of the brand
The main mission of Chrysler’s Halcyon concept is to present the future and several technologies that we will find in the brand’s next vehicles in the near future. From this lot, we find the unlocking and starting of the vehicle thanks to a facial biometric recognition system. Added to this is inductive charging of the battery on the road. Chrysler also mentions that this technology is currently being tested and developed.
The Halcyon concept also presents a new vision of “Stow ‘n Go” seating. Currently, this system allows seats to be folded into the floor of vans. However, in the present electric car concept, the rear seats retract into the trunk area to create additional space.
Additionally, the interior of the Chrysler Halcyon concept uses 95 percent sustainable materials. Moreover, we are told in the press release that the Chrysler logos are made from old music CDs that have been crushed and recycled. These are elements that we could see on a large scale in production vehicles soon.
Autonomous driving in the spotlight
As is the case for several concepts presented in the automobile industry, the Chrysler Halcyon concept highlights different level 4 autonomous driving characteristics. Among the characteristics, there is a mode that allows stargazing which positions the seats in a relaxed manner. We also note the presence of an augmented reality windshield. A shutter mode is also presented allowing passengers to disembark at the reception of a location and let the car park itself. Of course, the features listed in this paragraph may take several years to arrive in production vehicles.
Not a model for today
If you were one of those who were expecting a new product that would join Chrysler’s minivan duo, you will be disappointed to learn that this will not be the case. Indeed, during the press conference, some journalists questioned the benefit of presenting a concept of the future, while the American manufacturer’s range is extremely slimmed down. The manufacturer then defended itself by specifying that several elements present in the Halcyon concept would make their way to production vehicles very soon. In addition, it was mentioned that van sales were very profitable for the brand in 2023.
The Chrysler Halcyon concept was originally scheduled to be presented at CES 2024, but as Stellantis made the decision to withdraw from shows, the opportunity to present the concept was postponed until today.
As for Chrysler, the next new product expected to go into production would be a new electric SUV planned for around 2025. The manufacturer, however, has not revealed additional details to this effect.
