Electric Cars

Ready for winter | An electric winter

Electric vehicles don't fear winter any more than others. Instructions for maximizing your travels and slowing down the loss of autonomy in cold weather.

In an ideal world, your electric vehicle should sleep warm in a garage, even if it's not heated. Next, precondition your vehicle to maximize its range by giving the battery enough time to recharge and the cabin to be comfortable. Since electric vehicle batteries lose range in cold weather (between 30% and 50%, depending on the model), be sure to “top up” and maintain the charge level above the minimum at all times. 20% of battery capacity.

Before hitting the road, be sure to select “Eco” mode. This will limit the energy supply and electricity consumption. In doing so, certain vehicle functions will consume less energy and will therefore be less efficient.

On this subject, we suggest keeping the cabin temperature at an acceptable minimum and favoring heated seats and steering wheel as much as possible. The latter consume less energy.

Public charging stations can be extremely crowded during the winter. Plan your route and try to find a large charging site with a large number of charging stations. On this subject, when you charge your electric vehicle, make sure that there is no ice or snow around the connectors. Finally, it is important to remember that temperatures below freezing can slow charging times, as electric vehicle batteries are optimized to charge in warmer weather.
