Fiat would consider offering the 500 equipped with a gasoline engine again

Stellantis has announced that the 2024 Fiat 500e will only arrive equipped with an electric engine. Moreover, the RPM team will have the chance to test in a few weeks what will become the least expensive electric car in the country.

However, we are seeing a slowdown in sales of electric vehicles, and several manufacturers, who had decided to focus solely on this engine, are starting to return to hybrids, preferring to ensure greater diversity in their offering.

This would be the case of Stellantis which is considering declining its new Fiat 500 in a gasoline, hybrid or mild hybrid version after announcing that it would only be offered in an electric version. The news was reported by an Italian media outlet and confirmed to Automotive News Europe afterwards.

A subcontractor, who asked to remain anonymous, would have mentioned to the media that Stellantis would have approached them with the aim of increasing production of the Fiat 500 from just over 77,000 copies currently to 175,000 per year. next year. Of that total, about 100,000 would be gasoline models.

You should know that the previous generation of the 500 equipped with a gasoline engine remains on sale in Europe, it represented around 104,000 sales last year compared to 62,000 for the new electric 500e. These are market shares that the manufacturer would undoubtedly like to maintain.

If the Fiat 500 were ever to be offered with an engine again, there is no indication that it would be in North America and, especially, in Canada. This change could, however, indicate a change in strategy among certain brands which had decided to dive into 100% electric.
