First image of GMC Sierra electric released

Since the announcement of the Chevrolet Silverado electric, it’s no secret that the GMC Sierra would follow. Even GMC had whispered that its electric truck was coming, no official announcements or details had been confirmed. The manufacturer has just given some clues in addition to unveiling a video of what will become the second electric truck of the GMC family.

Unsurprisingly, the GMC Sierra Electric will share most of its mechanical components with the electric Chevrolet Silverado, like the sharing that takes place in the case of thermal engine versions. So expect the Ultium architecture and potentially the four-wheel directional system, like the Silverado.

The first video reveals the front of the truck. Unsurprisingly, the shape of the grid resembles that of the brand’s other models except that it is filled with a closed panel and surrounded by a light strip. The shape of the headlights also takes that of the thermal Sierra with the difference that three horizontal bands are placed inside. These allow a light sequence that will undoubtedly be useful to indicate the level of charge during the charging period.

The GMC Sierra will only be offered in a fully equipped Denali version. This is one of the most popular variations of the full-size truck. According to Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC, this will be an opportunity to “evolve the capabilities and technology of the Sierra through the switch to an electric powertrain while elevating the design and luxurious comfort of Denali.”

The GMC Sierra Denali electric will be GMC’s second electric truck and third electric vehicle. In fact, the GMC Hummer EV will arrive first in a pickup truck version and then in an SUV version somewhere in the year 2022.

Arrival at least in 2023

Even if no timeline has been announced, it’s a safe bet that it will arrive around the same time as the Chevrolet Silverado or a little later, considering that we heard about it later. It will be assembled at the Factory ZERO plant in Michigan, the same where the GMC Hummer EV will be assembled.
