Many electric vehicles have been plagued with battery issues in recent years. Several had to carry out major recalls, Hyundai with its Kona EV and Chevrolet with its Bolt EV and Bolt EUV.
This time, it’s Ford’s turn to experience battery problems. The manufacturer has announced that it has temporarily halted production and deliveries of its electric van Ford F-150 Lightning. This was revealed by the American media Automotive News.
Ford didn’t give full details of the problem, but it says an investigation is ongoing as problems were discovered with some batteries during the quality testing phase.
No details have been revealed on the duration of the production and delivery stoppage, but it is certain that buyers currently waiting for their copy will see the delays lengthen.
The manufacturer could not confirm whether any Ford Lightnings currently in circulation could be affected by the problem. If so, expect a major recall campaign for the model.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is assembled at Ford’s Rouge Plant located in Dearborn, Michigan.
Conclusion
This isn’t the first time automakers have struggled with their vehicles, but electric models seem much more prone to trouble in their first year on the market, especially when it comes to batteries. RPM never recommends the purchase of a new model in the first year of its production, this is even more true in the case of electric vehicles.
