Off-road performance offerings from the competition keep on growing. Several manufacturers offer option packages including Ram, with the Tradesman version of its base 1500 pickup equipped with the off-road package, as well as Chevrolet with its 1500 WT equipped with the off-road suspension package. Ford is following suit with its new Rattler.
the Rattler 2023 will be enhanced with content from the FX4 package, including skid plates, an electronic locking rear differential for better traction, hill descent control, off-road shock absorbers specially designed for better off-road stability on rough terrain. A dual exhaust system also adds a sportier touch.
Built from the entry-level XL version of the F-150 that starts under $35,000, the Rattler caters to a different customer base looking for “a unique combination of performance and value.” However, Ford has not yet revealed the price of the van, which should arrive in dealerships in the fall.
A 2.7-liter V6 for the Rattler?
The manufacturer has also kept silent about the engine that will animate its latest comer. However, if we rely on the power unit that powers the current version of the F-150 XL, it’s a safe bet that the Rattler will also be entitled, at least as an option, to a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with its power 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.
From the outside, the Rattler is differentiated by its badges which adorn the air intakes of the fenders and its body as well as its graphic elements inspired by the rattlesnake. Perched on all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch painted aluminum rims, it comes standard with four-wheel drive. The exterior color range comes in Oxford White, Avalanche Grey, Iconic Silver, Charcoal Grey, Antimatter Blue, Stone Grey, Agate Black and Tricoat Rapid Red.
Inspired by the desert
The interior is accented with onyx black seats with burnished bronze accents with stitching that matches the instrument panel trim, creating an interior that echoes the desert theme that inspired the model.
In recent years, Ford had increased its off-road offering for its pickup trucks and SUVs including the introduction of Raptor and Tremor variants as well as the addition of trims such as Timberline to its Explorer and Expedition vehicles.
